Privacy notice
Version 2026-10-26
WhyKite turns TV time into curious time for your kids. This notice says what we keep to do that, why, for how long, and what you can do about it. We keep as little as we can, and we never sell your family's data or use it for advertising.
In short
- Videos play only inside WhyKite.
- All apps start locked.
- You can withdraw consent for your kids' profiles from Account.
Who we are
WhyKite is made by KakTav Technologies Private Limited, Bangalore: the WhyKite app for Android and Google TVs, and this website (Contact us). For anything about your data, see Questions and complaints below.
What we keep, and why
About you
- Your mobile number, to sign you in with a texted code, and to confirm a change that loosens your kids' lock, like a new PIN or another app allowed. Your number is your account.
- A nominee, if you name one: their name and number, so they can use your rights for you.
- Your choices: the apps your kids may open, how long an unlock lasts, WhyKite's free time each day, the voices, and the channels, videos and topics you add.
- Your PIN, only as a salted hash that we also seal with a key of its own. We never keep the PIN itself.
- Your sign-ins: each signed-in browser for up to 60 days, and each texted code for 5 minutes.
- Your plan: which one you chose and whether it's on, for as long as you have an account. And Razorpay's note of each payment (its amount, the method, when, and Razorpay's reason if it failed), for 180 days.
- Your setup and payment steps, so we can see where setting up gets hard and help when a payment fails: a code sent or refused, signing in, a TV linked, your consent, how many kids you added (never who they are), the PIN set, and on the pay page, opening it, Later, and the checkout opened, closed or failed (with Razorpay's reason). Each step is tied to your account, kept for 180 days, and in Download my data. It never holds your kids' details.
About your kids, only after you agree
- Each child's first name or nickname, their age, and if you choose, their gender and an avatar. Your TVs show them so each child can pick who's watching, and Pip uses them to greet each child and pitch activities at the right level. Pip's AI never gets their names: it sees a code in place of each name.
- The activities they played, and Pip's lines from them, for 90 days, so Pip doesn't repeat itself. An activity nobody played is deleted after a day.
- Your family's AI log, for 30 days, so you can see what Pip's AI wrote and what our safety checks turned away. A question a child asked that Pip turned away shows only as "question redirected", with its category and never its words. Pip's own answers in the log can still echo what was asked, with your kids' names replaced.
History (if you turn it on)
It's off unless you turn it on, under History on this website.
- What happens on your TVs, for each child: the videos they started, finished or skipped, and how far they got; the activities they played; which apps were on screen and for how long; locked apps they opened; and PIN unlocks and wrong PINs. The lock can't tell who holds the remote, so app and PIN events name no child.
- Never kept: History never keeps what a child asks Pip (only that they asked), or anything typed in a TV's video search, which stays on the TV.
- For 30 days, then it's deleted.
- Only you can see it, here and in your download. It never goes to Groq, and we never use it to choose what your kids see.
- Erased when you turn History off, withdraw consent or delete your account. Removing a child erases that child's entries, and unlinking a TV erases that TV's.
About your TVs
- Each TV's make and model, its Android and WhyKite versions, the apps on it, whether WhyKite's lock is on, its screen's refresh rate, its voices, and WhyKite's crashes. So you can see your TVs here and choose their apps, and so we can fix problems. None of it says anything about your kids or what they open.
Who else handles it
- Groq (USA), our AI provider, gets what it needs to write each activity: your kids' ages and genders, the topics you add, and what a child asks Pip. Topics you write go to Groq to make activities, never your children's names.
- YouTube. WhyKite uses YouTube API Services to find the videos on the channels, playlists and links that WhyKite and you add, and videos play inside WhyKite in YouTube's embedded player (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube may use cookies and similar technology when a video plays. See the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Our SMS provider gets your number and each code it texts you.
- Razorpay (India) processes payments. You set up UPI AutoPay in Razorpay's checkout and approve it in your UPI app, so your bank and UPI details go only to them: WhyKite never sees them. We give Razorpay your mobile number, to fill in its checkout, and a number for your family. Razorpay tells us whether each payment went through. See Razorpay's privacy policy.
- Our hosting provider runs the servers that keep all of this.
Everything travels encrypted. Apart from these, nobody gets your family's data, and we never sell it.
What stays on the TV
- Which app is opening. WhyKite's lock sees which app is opening, only to ask for your PIN when it should. That stays on the TV: it's never logged or sent to us, unless you turn on History.
- Which videos were started, finished or skipped. The TV keeps its own marks for 7 days, to order the hub. They never leave the TV unless you turn on History.
- Checking your PIN. The TV checks the PIN itself.
- The voice. Pip and the stories speak with one of the TV's own offline English voices, so your kids' names never go to a voice service.
- Speech. When a child asks Pip something, the TV's speech service turns the words into text. Depending on the TV, that service runs on the TV or is Google's. WhyKite never gets a recording.
- The daily free time is counted on the TV.
This website
It sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It runs no analytics or trackers. Every page loads only from WhyKite, except the pay page: it loads Razorpay's checkout, so you can set up UPI AutoPay, and Razorpay's checkout may set cookies of its own. The log of your setup and payment steps, above, is kept by WhyKite, tied to your account, with no cookie or device id of its own.
